Buenos Aires is described as the Paris of the South and with good reason. It is the most European of all South American city thanks to the many European immigrants, also called Portenos, that choose to call this city their home. Combined with the Portenos' love of their city is their passion for independence, remembered in the naming of many of the top plazas and streets. The last few decades brought an end to an economic crisis, a dirty war against its own citizens and an unofficial war against Britain. Today, the people of Buenos Aires are mindful of their past, proud of their accomplishments and hopeful for the bright future as they breath new life into old quarters of the city.
