Leap Playing Hard to Get
Is the courtship betweens those scrappy telcom startups, Leap Wireless and Metro PCS, back on the upswing? Times are getting tough out there, especially if you are not just maintaining a network but building out one while competing with the big boys like AT&T and T-Mobile. How can the continue to access the cash needed for their networks? The market is in a tailspin, and banks are retrenching.
As you may recall, Metro PCS made an offer for Leap last year and was promptly told to take a hike. Could the latest deal to share roaming on each others networks now and in the future be the signal that Leap may have changed its mind?
It would make a great combo and provide even more competition for the likes of Virgin Mobile. Watch this space.
