Mobile Coupons To Save On The Go
Mobile coupons have always been the holy grail of advertisers on cell phones. There is nothing like giving buyers an incentive to come to your place when they are close by. But the other aspect that that is often forgotten by people outside the industry is that electronic coupons are easily trackable and easily shared with friends. You just can’t do that with the paper coupons that come in the Sunday paper, the traditional home of coupons.
Visa and JP Morgan Chase have reported their latest efforts in this area and some of the big players that have signed on to work with them. But many startups are focused in this area as well. On Thursday SIPA had a meeting at the Sunnyvale Plug and Play that included Jorge Fernandes, the founder of Mobibucks. He did a quick little demo of the service at the talk by sending a mobile $5 coupon to a lucky audience member via SMS for a nearby coffee shop. The trick to the service is that the shop needs to have a keypad for the users to enter their pin codes. But otherwise, it is a great service because Mobibucks has figured out a way to deliver a service without having to rely on the cell phone companies and all their variations in delivery systems.
Mobile coupons will soon be everywhere.
