Timing Is Everything

I hope that you did not invest in VMWare. It just dropped 25% on news that its estimated revenues going to be “modestly lower” than the 50% increase they had previously expected. Right after the lowered earnings announcement, the CEO who founded the company got her walking papers. It will be interesting how Diane Greene, VMWare’s former CEO, will end up. She was scheduled to speak on Thursday at the MIT Club meeting. I wonder if there will be a last minute replacement. Maybe VMWare’s new CEO, Paul Maritz, can replace her there too.

Generally, Silicon Valley is very forgiving if you try and don’t succeed, as long as you were not dishonest or stupid. But it is still run by white guys at VC firms. As I said, it will be interesting to see where Greene ends up.
