Great Source for Advertising News
I like to read through a wide range of info. It is like getting a quick peak into someone else’s world and mindset. One area that I love to scan through is ad magazines. Whether you are into for-profit, non-profit, computers, sports, travel, opera, bull riding, etc., advertising touches it. Like it or not, ads are just one of the ways that we keep up on what is going on in the world around us.
One cool source of ad info is the on-line Response Magazine that supports the Direct Response Marketing industry. Direct Response is just a fancy way of saying those infomercials on TV. In many ways, these type of ads that you respond to by calling in your order is the precursor to the Internet with its click per view model.
Response Magazine has two interesting articles in it this month. The first is “Welcome to the Millennials”, which talks about how you need much more than TV to reach the teens and 20-somethings. I talked about this before, but this article focuses on brand and ad campaigns that have multiple ways to reach these consumers on their own turf and that these multiple reaches should all coordinated into a single message to cut through the clutter.
The second feature is a listing of all of the US cable TV channels and a breakdown of their viewers. I forget that there are this many channels until I see them all lined up. The other thing that I notice as I scan through the data is that there are more people watch some of this niche sites than I would have believed. Just goes to show that we Americans are a mixed bunch with mixed ideas of what makes good content.
